What we offer....

Birth Preparation & Pregnancy Yoga

The practice of yoga during pregnancy gives substantial benefits to the expectant mother. Traditional Yoga postures, breathing techniques and deep relaxation are adapted to provide a strengthening, fun and safe method of exercise that helps prepare for birth. Classes are suitable throughout pregnancy.

Postures strengthen and tone the muscles whilst encouraging flexibility. The constant changes occurring requires the body to continually adapt and yoga supports this process perfectly. Breathing techniques are a valuable tool during the pregnancy and throughout the different stages of labour. Deep relaxation is said to be as beneficial as several hours sleep, so when sleep can be disrupted by pregnancy it is a vital practice to maintain a healthy level of rest and rejuvenation.

Birth Preparation for Couples/Birth Partners

Many birth partners feel unprepared for the important role they are asked to play. By understanding the basic needs of a woman in labour in terms of movement, environment and emotional support, a birth partner can be an effective form of pain relief.

In this 2 hour workshop will explore very practical ways partners can offer support during the birthing process by giving a basic understanding of what a woman needs, as well as an introduction to breathing and relaxation techniques. To be physically, mentally and emotionally supported is priceless for the birthing woman.

It is a perfect opportunity for the partners of women attending the Birth Preparation & Pregnancy Yoga sessions to experience the techniques their partners are practising.

Baby Yoga

Practicing baby yoga is a joy for both carer and baby. Suitable from birth to approximately 9 months or crawling, these simple techniques can be practiced at home as part of your nappy changing or bath routine or simply as an opportunity to play! Baby yoga, offers quality physical stimulation including flowing postures, holding, movement, touch, voice and deep relaxation. It induces a happy, care-free and lively parent-infant interaction which develops as the babies grow.

The experience of movement combined with touch is probably the richest stimulation we can offer babies from birth. In Yoga, this stimulation occurs through the mutual involvement of parent and baby, at a pace at which the baby can absorb and integrate it. As Yoga postures induce deep relaxation in adults, so in babies they bring a state of deep contentment and promote deep sleep.

Toddler/Family Yoga

A continuation of baby yoga for mobile babies, toddlers and pre-school children up to 4yrs. Using songs and rhymes alongside plenty of movement and stretching, this yoga set is designed to support the transition from babyhood to more developed forms of self-expression. As babies make this transition to independence, physical contact with their parents is often reduced, yet remains very important. Toddler yoga promotes strength, flexibility and balance. Relaxation and energetic activity are contrasted and balanced providing a foundation for a healthy lifestyle.

This form of yoga sustains loving and playful contact, continuing a mutual focus between parent and child, whilst providing a positive shared routine to carry families through what can be a challenging time as they manage tantrums and boundary testing. Ultimately toddler yoga classes provide an opportunity for parents to have fun with their children.

Children's Yoga

The introduction of yoga to children aged between 2 1/2 and 7 years plants a seed of knowledge that supports children into adulthood. Simple techniques in breathing, movement and relaxation enable this age group to understand that they are able to make a difference to how they feel through the practice of yoga.

The children are led through creative stories and exciting adventures that stimulate their imagination and help to maintain their natural flexibility. Whilst enjoying a variety of safe postures, the children sing songs, play games and work together. The stories involve a wonderful combination of stretches, back arches, forward bends, twists and balances. These combine to support and strengthen children, not only physically but also mentally by building confidence in themselves, improving their concentration and helping them to sleep better. Classes offer a non-competitive environment for children to express themselves and has had great success in supporting children through emotionally and mentally stressful periods.

Sivananda Yoga

A very traditional form of Yoga that introduces breathing techniques, postures and relaxation methods to bring a real sense of strength, balanace and control.

"Yoga is a life of self-discipline. Yoga balances, harmonizes, purifies and strengthens the body, mind and soul. It shows the way to perfect health, perfect mind control and perfect peace with one's own Self, the world and nature."
- Swami Vishnu-devananda
